Swan Songs fulfills musical wishes at the end of life: This 501(c)(3) nonprofit does this by organizing private concerts for individuals with a terminal illness. Upon request, a favorite style of music or musician is brought directly to the home or facility. The concert allows recipient, family and friends to focus beyond the illness and come together through the medium of music. There is no cost to the family for this service.
Wonders and Worries (Central Texas)
Free professional support for children/teenagers of seriously ill parents: Wonders & Worries provides free, professional support for children and teenagers through a parent’s serious illness. Parents often wish to protect their children, and unsure what to say, they say nothing at all. In turn, children are incredibly perceptive and pick up on the clues in the home that something is wrong. Our professional child life staff provide tools for families to build a solid foundation of communication to successfully cope.
Flatwater Foundation (Central Texas)
Accessible Mental Health Counseling: Flatwater Foundation is dedicated to providing those diagnosed with cancer, their families and loved ones access to mental health therapy and family support. This includes access to both traditional and non-traditional methods of psychological counseling.
Honor Flight Austin (Nationwide)
Free Flights to Washington D.C. for Veterans: The Honor Flight Austin mission is to transport veterans with a specific priority to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices and return them home to their families and loved ones. The cost is FREE for World War II, Korean War and terminally ill Veterans. Honor Flight Austin is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.
Alive Inside (Nationwide)
This nationwide nonprofit promotes the use of music to "awaken" those with severe dementia, who are often lonely, isolated and withdrawn from their loved ones and the community that is caring for them. Also, they are working with communities to connect the young generation with these elders to help reduce the suffering of those with Alzheimer's.
